By the time people feel the pain of paying for SEDA, it will be too late.
We'll be forking money over for infrastructure on what's currently county property, displacing communities already living there, as we watch our own neighborhoods fall apart - with no guarantee that SEDA will ever bring in any tax dollars in return.
File a PRA to find out what public infrastructure in YOUR neighborhood the City has identified as 'missing' - and how much it would cost to fix it!
Your PRA tells the City to give you this information. You have a right to have it!
Next, consider conducting a Community Infrastructure Audit for yourself! Then, you'll be ready to bring the findings to your City Councilmember.
The button below takes you to some templates - AND, we can help you! Use the contact info at the bottom of this page to get help with your PRA!
If you submitted a public comment about SEDA before 2025, the City threw out your input along with almost 400 pages of other comments. Submit again if you want an opportunity to be heard.
Though the official comment period closed March 24, email anyway: anywaylongrangeplanning@fresno.gov.
Take a look at the SEDA plan the City has posted: https://www.fresno.gov/wp-content/uploads/2023/07/Draft-SEDA-Specific-Plan.pdf
Then, email to tell them about what needs to be fixed in YOUR neighborhood first. Sidewalks? Streets? Dangerous intersections? Storm drains? Lighting? Need parks and greenspace? Don't hold back.
Tell them you want the costs of these projects to be a priority - not have them derailed by SEDA!
You can have up to 3 minutes to tell the Council what it's like living with YOUR broken sidewalks, blocked drains, dangerous intersections, crumbling streets, etc - and that you want them to KNOW the cost of fixing YOUR neighborhood BEFORE they commit billions to SEDA infrastructure!
PLAN AHEAD: at least 10 days before the day you want to speak, fill out this simple 'Request to Speak': https://www.fresno.gov/cityclerk/#request-to-speak-before-council
Filling out the form will get you your own time on the agenda. If you just show up and fill out a yellow card to speak, you will have to wait for hours. Save time - use the form!
MEETING DATES are Thursdays,: April 10, April 24, May 1, May 15, May 22. If you complete the form up to 10 days before, your assigned time may be between 10am and noon.
Let's show up by the hundreds at public hearings about SEDA! These will happen late spring/early summer 2025.
We'll post dates here as soon as we get them. Plan to bring all your friends and neighbors. Tell local business owners. Be ready to spread the word as soon as you get it!
They need to hear from you. Don't worry if you have no idea who your city council member is! You can find out. Go here: https://www.fresno.gov/citycouncil/#city-council-district-locator
Enter your address. Type "E" for East, "W" for West, etc. It won't find your address if you enter the whole word. In the popup list of information about your address, you'll see "Council District." It will be a number between 1 and 6.
Then, go to: https://www.fresno.gov/citycouncil/ Find the person with your district number. Their email will be District1@fresno.gov, OR District2@fresno.gov, OR District3@fresno.gov, and so on.
Tell them what it's like living in YOUR neighborhood! You might say something like, "Where I live [work/worship/shop/etc], the sidewalks are so broken my neighbor has to use the street to take her baby in a stroller."
OR, "When it rains, the intersections flood so badly it’s not safe to cross. People have to cross mid-block. It's not safe!"
OR, "We have so few street trees I worry about my kids walking to school on hot, unshaded sidewalks!"
OR, "There are no sidewalks, so kids have to walk in the mud or on the street to get to school!"
Add, "You’re considering investing many billions in SEDA. Where is that infrastructure plan and budget? Who will actually pay?”
Tell them you want them to know the ACTUAL cost of fixing YOUR neighborhood before they commit billions to SEDA infrastructure.
We are just a group of Fresno residents concerned that SEDA will harm you, us, and all our neighbors, neighborhoods, and local businesses.
